Abril is the sole survivor of a tragedy that breaks apart her family. She does not know how to carry the weight of having lived. She retreats to a small, bare apartment and to her piano, pouring herself into the keys as if music might hold what grief cannot.
Abril es la única sobreviviente de una tragedia que rompe la familia irreparablemente. No sabe cómo cargar con el peso de haber sobrevivido. Se refugia en un pequeño apartamento casi vacío y en su piano, volcándose en las teclas como si la música pudiera sostener lo que el dolor no puede.
At first, she plays to survive; then she plays because there is nothing else. Her piano both rescues and condemns her. Her two children reach for their mother with everything they have; she slips, note by note, further away. They watch her descend — bewildered, heartbroken, helpless. The music that once promised solace now consumes her.
Al principio toca el piano para sobrevivir. Luego lo toca porque no le queda nada más. Su piano la rescata y la condena. A story born on the Dominican stage.Una historia nacida en el teatro dominicano.
Acorde Final began as a Dominican stage play written by Patricia Muñoz Aldave and dedicated to her father, Dr. Hipólito Muñoz. She plays Abril in both the stage production and the film, and Mario Peguero returns to the role of Cristóbal, which he originated in the theater.
Acorde Final nace de la obra de teatro dominicana del mismo nombre, escrita por Patricia Muñoz Aldave y dedicada a su padre, el Dr. Hipólito Muñoz. Ella interpreta a Abril tanto en el montaje teatral como en la película, y Mario Peguero vuelve al papel de Cristóbal, que creó en las tablas.
Pachy Banks-Cabral adapted the play into a screenplay and directed the feature — the first adaptation of a Dominican stage play to earn international festival recognition.
Pachy Banks-Cabral adaptó la pieza a guion cinematográfico y dirigió el largometraje: la primera adaptación de una obra teatral dominicana en obtener reconocimiento en festivales internacionales.

Patricia “Pachy” Banks-Cabral is an award-winning Dominican filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist whose debut feature won Best Director at FICIMAD and Best First Time Director at the Berlin Independent Film Festival. She brings over 25 years of experience across dance, theater and musical theater, film, television, photography, and visual arts to her first feature as writer-director.
Patricia “Pachy” Banks-Cabral es una cineasta galardonada y artista multidisciplinaria dominicana cuyo debut ganó el premio a Mejor Dirección en FICIMAD y el de Mejor Directora Debutante en el Berlin Independent Film Festival. Aporta más de 25 años de experiencia en danza, teatro y teatro musical, cine, televisión, fotografía y artes visuales a su primer largometraje como guionista y directora.
A leading presence on the Dominican stage — in Beauty and the Beast, The Sound of Music, Grease, La Trinitaria Blanca and Acorde Final itself — she has also appeared in Sanky Panky, Megadiva and Aquí se Habla Español, and worked as a line producer, set designer, acting coach and television segment producer. As a photographer she won First Prize in the 12th Wilfredo García Photography Contest, with work exhibited in the Dominican Republic, the United States and Spain. She is now based in the United States.
Figura destacada del teatro dominicano —en La Bella y la Bestia, The Sound of Music, Grease, La Trinitaria Blanca y la propia Acorde Final—, también ha actuado en Sanky Panky, Megadiva y Aquí se Habla Español, y ha trabajado como productora de campo, diseñadora de escenografía, coach de actuación y productora de segmentos para televisión. Como fotógrafa obtuvo el Primer Premio en el 12º Concurso de Fotografía Wilfredo García, con obra exhibida en República Dominicana, Estados Unidos y España. Actualmente reside en Estados Unidos.

As a Dominican filmmaker making my directorial debut, Chord of Silence (Acorde Final) emerged from my understanding that grief isolates us in ways that words cannot reach. Adapted from a stage drama, this film explores how a family navigates the aftermath of devastating loss — a universal experience told through a culturally specific lens.
As both a performer who has lived within music’s emotional landscape and a storyteller drawn to the spaces between words, I translate grief’s reality through deliberate cinematic choices: slow cadence, external points of view, muted colors filled with shadows, and music functioning as both savior and intruder. The camera becomes a witness to isolation, maintaining distance when characters need space and drawing closer during moments of connection.
Characters orbit around a central pain that anchors the narrative. They come and go with opinions that are absorbed and muted by piano notes. The piano itself becomes a character — Abril’s refuge that simultaneously walls her off from those who still need her.
As you witness this story, you will find yourself through love, grief, despair, and rage. This is a moment of raw humanity, an unchangeable truth, an inevitable connection — and my statement as a first-time feature filmmaker.
Como cineasta dominicana en mi ópera prima, Acorde Final nace de mi certeza de que el duelo nos aísla de maneras que las palabras no alcanzan. Adaptada de una obra teatral, la película explora cómo una familia atraviesa las secuelas de una pérdida devastadora: una experiencia universal contada a través de una mirada culturalmente propia.
Como intérprete que ha vivido dentro del paisaje emocional de la música y como narradora atraída por los espacios entre las palabras, traduzco la realidad del duelo a través de decisiones cinematográficas deliberadas: cadencia lenta, miradas desde afuera, colores apagados cargados de sombras, y la música que funciona a la vez como salvadora e intrusa. La cámara se convierte en testigo del aislamiento, guardando distancia cuando los personajes necesitan espacio y acercándose en los momentos de conexión.
Los personajes orbitan alrededor de un dolor central que ancla la narrativa. Entran y salen con opiniones que las notas del piano absorben y silencian. El piano mismo se vuelve un personaje, el refugio de Abril que al mismo tiempo la amuralla de quienes todavía la necesitan.
Al presenciar esta historia, te encontrarás a ti mismo a través del amor, el duelo, la desesperación y la rabia. Este es un momento de humanidad en carne viva, una verdad inalterable, una conexión inevitable, y mi declaración como cineasta en su primer largometraje.

An industrial engineer with a master’s in marketing, Patricia began her acting career in 1992 with Doña Germana Quintana at Teatro Club Arroyo Hondo, and went on to work under directors including Manuel Chapuseaux, Danilo Ginebra, Flor de Bethania Abreu and Dolly Martínez.
With more than 30 stage productions, 600 performances and 20 Premios Soberano nominations, she wrote the play Acorde Final and stars as Abril on stage and on screen.
Ingeniera industrial con maestría en mercadeo, Patricia inició su carrera de actriz en 1992 junto a Doña Germana Quintana en el Teatro Club Arroyo Hondo, y ha trabajado bajo la dirección de Manuel Chapuseaux, Danilo Ginebra, Flor de Bethania Abreu y Dolly Martínez, entre otros.
Con más de 30 obras, 600 presentaciones y 20 nominaciones a los Premios Soberano, escribió la obra Acorde Final y protagoniza a Abril en el teatro y en el cine.

A Dominican actor and television presenter, Mario first became known in Santo Domingo hosting Mango TV, Chévere Nights and Vale por Tres, and appeared in films including Todo Incluido and Duarte: Traición y Gloria.
A graduate of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting conservatory in New York, he is a member of Repertorio Español, has appeared on NBC’s The Blacklist and CBS’s FBI: Most Wanted, and earned two New York Emmy nominations with Telemundo 47’s Acceso Total. He originated Cristóbal on stage.
Actor y presentador dominicano, Mario se dio a conocer en Santo Domingo como conductor de Mango TV, Chévere Nights y Vale por Tres, y participó en películas como Todo Incluido y Duarte: Traición y Gloria.

A Dominican actress and educator, Luvil graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático de Bellas Artes and studied Peking Opera at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing.
She has taught drama across the Dominican Republic and in Beijing, founded “Ejército Rosa”, is a member of Colectivo de Teatro Maleducadas and Teatro La Veladora (National Best Actress nominee, 2012), and is resident theater director at Wow-effect in the Netherlands.
Actriz y educadora dominicana, Luvil es graduada de la Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático de Bellas Artes y estudió Ópera de Pekín en la Academia Central de Teatro de Beijing.
Ha impartido clases de teatro en República Dominicana y en Beijing, fundó “Ejército Rosa”, es miembro del Colectivo de Teatro Maleducadas y de Teatro La Veladora (nominada a Mejor Actriz Nacional 2012), y es directora teatral titular en Wow-effect, en los Países Bajos.

More than forty years of distinguished work in the performing arts define the career of this multidisciplinary artist. She has starred in and enriched more than fifty productions across a wide range of theatrical genres, complemented by ten years of specialized work in set design, playwriting and directing.
On screen she has played key roles in the Dominican films Acorde Final, Asalto en Progreso and Rosa y la Constitución. In television she has worked extensively in commercials, and as actress and scriptwriter on the beloved children’s classic El Jardín de Tintinola and the cult series Microrelatos de Micky Bretón.
Más de cuarenta años de impecable trayectoria en las artes escénicas respaldan a esta profesional multidisciplinaria. Ha protagonizado y enriquecido más de cincuenta obras de múltiples géneros teatrales, complementando su experiencia actoral con diez años de especialización en diseño escenográfico, dramaturgia y dirección.
En cine ha tenido actuaciones clave en las películas dominicanas Acorde Final, Asalto en Progreso y Rosa y la Constitución. En televisión cuenta con amplia experiencia en publicidad, además de roles como actriz y libretista en el clásico infantil El Jardín de Tintinola y el formato de culto Microrelatos de Micky Bretón.
